Samsung's Galaxy S3 beats Apple's iPhone

Samsung Galaxy S3's best-selling position is likely to be short-lived

South Korean electronics firm Samsung's Galaxy S3 has outsold Apple's iPhone 4S for the first time, becoming the world's best-selling smartphone, says research firm Strategy Analytics.
Samsung sold 18 million models, compared with Apple's 16.2 million sales, in the third quarter of 2012.
The Galaxy S3 "has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators," said Strategy Analytics' Neil Mawston.
However, Apple's new iPhone 5 is widely expected to reclaim the top sales spot.
Strong Galaxy smartphone sales helped Samsung report record profits in the three months to September. Net profit was 6.5tn won ($5.9bn; £3.7bn), up 91% from a year earlier.
But analysts say that one reason Samsung's phone was able to wrest the top sales spot from Apple's iPhone 4 was because many customers were waiting for the iPhone 5, which was launched during the third quarter.
The Apple iPhone 5 has already got off to a solid start and "we expect the new iPhone 5 to out-ship Samsung's Galaxy S3 in the coming fourth quarter", said Neil Mawston.
"Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world's most popular smartphone model," he added.
Legal struggle
Samsung and its rival Apple have been locked in a series of ongoing legal battles over patent infringement claims in various countries.
In October, sales bans in the US on Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone and its Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer were lifted, in a blow to Apple.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, a US court awarded Apple $1.05bn (£652m) in damages, after ruling several of its software and design technologies had been infringed by Samsung.
Samsung has challenged that verdict and called for a retrial.
Analysts say that given the tremendous growth potential of the sector, the two firms' legal battle is likely to continue.

Researchers Are Taking Human Surveillance To Another Level By Developing Mosquito Sized Spy Drones

With all the negative news flying around these days concerning drones – and the potential negative constitutional impact they will ultimately have on American society – now comes news that researchers are taking the surveillance society up a notch by shrinking the observation platform.

Dramatically.

It may sound like something out of the science-fiction hopper at your local DVD rental machine, but scientists are trying to engineer a drone that is no bigger than a bug. A team of researchers at the vaunted Johns Hopkins University – in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Arlington, Va. – is helping develop what they are calling an MAV (micro aerial vehicle) that will no doubt have loads of uses, up to and including the usurpation of privacy rights by the Leviathan State.

Initially though, it’s thought that MAVs will be incorporated for use by the military, for situations when stealth is of the utmost importance. The tiny drones could effortlessly infiltrate urban areas, where dense concentrations of buildings and people, along with unpredictable winds and other obstacles make it impractical, if not impossible, to use a standard-sized drone. Domestic uses include search-and-rescue operations and, of course, observation.

How small, exactly? Well, a graphic on the site of the Air Force research agency features what looks to be an electronic mosquito. That’s pretty small – though officially, the agency says such micro vehicles could be larger.

They’re not bug-sized yet, but they’re out there

“A MAV is a flight vehicle about two feet in length or smaller, capable of operating below rooftop level in an urban environment. It may have a fixed wing, rotary wing (helicopter), flapping wing, or possibly no wings,” the Air Force says. “One of the primary missions driving MAV development is the need to fill the covert close-in sensing requirement. This requirement demands that MAVs be able to covertly find, track, and target adversaries while operating in complex urban environments.”

How possible is it to build such machines? Very possible. In fact, according a 2009 Air Force press release, a French researcher funded by the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development, in London, and the French ministry of defense “has designed a rugged micro air vehicle (MAV) that is attractive to the U.S. Air Force because of its high aerodynamic efficiency, even in adverse conditions.”

Dr. Jean-Marc Moschetta, professor of aerodynamics at the Institut Superieur de l’Aeronautique et de l’espace in Toulouse, France created what he calls the MAVion – a 30-centimeter fixed wing MAV that can make a rapid transition between flight and hover, both features which are attractive for military and commercial use.

“The ultimate goal of the MAVion concept is to demonstrate a two-fold capability using the same vehicle: fast forward flight and hover flight,” Moschetta said.

Since then, the focus on MAVs has evolved. Student researchers Tras Lin and Lingxiao Zheng, who are leading the Johns Hopkins contribution to MAV research, are using high-speed video cameras to examine how a butterfly moves in flight. The cameras give the team the ability to separate one-fifth of a second movement into about 600 frames, showing them how the insect maneuvers and moves its body to make the kinds of sudden moves it can make.

Concept has long been studied

Other defense agencies are working on similar technology.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency just last year released photos of a small, mega-lightweight, remote-controlled flying vehicle called a Hummingbird that was designed to mimic the bird in flight. Specifically, the vehicle was designed to give American troops the capability to see around corners and look inside buildings to spot enemy forces.

That project likely stemmed from a 1999 report by the Foreign Military Studies Office at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., detailing the military’s interest in improving combat conditions for U.S. forces in urban environments.

“From early history on, urban combat has required masses of dismounted infantrymen, a significant amount of time, combined arms and astonishing quantities of ammunition,” the report summarized. “The assaulting force runs the risk of its own attrition by combat, insufficient supplies and epidemic diseases. Assaults on cities have resulted in heavy military and civilian casualties and shattered cities. Modern, urban combat has often destroyed operations’ tempo, drained logistics stockpiles and ruined the reputations of promising commanders.”

MAVs may be under development for all the right reasons, but they sure carry with them the possibility they may be used for all the wrong reasons.

Avoiding Unnecessary Charges While Traveling Internationally With An iPhone

Unfortunately, consuming data while roaming tends to get extremely expensive very quickly. Recently, U.S. carriers have become a lot more reasonable with data plans, but it’s far from perfect. Usually, you pay about $25 for 100 MBs of data. In comparison, Verizon charges $70 for 4,000 MBs of data in the U.S. So 100 MBs tend to get used up quickly, especially if you use media-intensive apps like Instagram, Facebook, or Path.
In addition, international calling and texting plans tend to be really expensive, even if you aren’t actually trying to use them. At least with AT&T, you are charged when someone leaves you a voicemail, regardless if you wait until returning home to listen to the voicemail. To me, that’s crazy. If someone leaves you a 10-minute voicemail, you pay $10.
There are some small settings on your iPhone you can change to protect yourself from unnecessary charges while traveling. Here are the ones I toggle when going out of the country:

Which is better iOS or Android?

I prefer android over apple for the reason that it is open-source, which means the majority of the applications (apps) are free, and you get more revolutionary and cutting edge apps, and do things that are rarely available on even a jail broken iphone.
The android market already has 250,000 apps- closing in on apple 500,000; some say it will surpass it before the year is over. Also any popular iphone game or game adaptation can be found in the android market for free.
Another great thing about android is that if you dont like something (keyboard, homescreen, etc.) it can easily be swapped without jail-breaking, unlike the iphones one-size-fits-all approach.

Despite the false rumors, The iphone is also just as, if not more, vulnerable to viruses as android
.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/183763/ex…

Other features only on android

** Turn-by-turn voice GPS
** Better and larger screen
** No need to connect to computer to sync
** Here is a big one, add an sd card of whatever size
** Live wallpapers
** widgets
** 4g
** More customizable
** More powerful hardware
** Flash support, watch ALL the online videos

Apple lovers
that say that the iphone is made of better quality material? They don’t realize that Samsung, an android phone maker, supply’s the screen, processor and memory for apple devices, so android has the advantage here.
The iphone is pretty, but not durable, drop it once- it breaks, all that glass around it? That was honestly a mistake. Android manufactures clearly saw that, and decided to do with something a little more durable.

And the iphones “retina display” is a huge scam. By definition a ‘retina display’ is one where the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels. But this is determined by several factors; most important being the distance between the screen and your eyes. The iphones retina distance is 12in, move any closer than that- say 7in and it’s no longer a “retina screen” because your eyes can now see the pixels, by that same token, if I move my android phone back, to say 16-17in, amazingly, it becomes a retina screen as well! (feel free to google this)

Also apple never invents anything, they are never “the first”. All they do is steal old technology, give it a fresh coat of paint and mass advertise it as “magical” and “innovating”, thus fooling the mass of the population into believing that apple offers cutting edge technology, that in fact has been around for quite a few years.

So instead of innovating, apple actually hinders technology- after 4 years they still have low-power single core phones, while android, an example of technology in overdrive, has rumored that, after their second year, the release of quad core phones that will surpass even some desktop computers in shear processing power. (now any 2011 android is smoother and faster than the iphone)

Apple should now feel pretty worried; android has passed it in market share

http://www.businessinsider.com/android-i…

Then apple panics and sues

http://www.dailytech.com/Google+ExCEO+Ap…

The funny thing is that apple can’t sue for being the first touchscreen or tablet, because they weren’t,(Nokia fist touch screen, “archos” first tablet) so instead they sue for much more relevant things like, “the rounded icon corners” and “having a flat screen” or “the square shape of the phone”……..

To top it all, if you’ve seen apples 2011 presentation, they blatantly copied over five "new" features that were previously on android.

http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/fiv…

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/app…

1. Notification bar
2. Twitter integration
3. No need to connect to PC to sync
4. Launch apps from lock screen
5. Tabbed browsing

And not only they copied, but apple didn’t even bother to improve, or change some of them in any way- some even have LESS features than their android counter parts, it’s basically a cheap imitation with the ever-popular iphone skin.

According to Steve jobs, these "revolutionary" new technologies that android users had since 2007 will be available on IOS5, and it would not surprise me to see some more android features from 2008 on IOS6.But the truly sad part is that due to apples marketing, in a few months, apple lovers will really think that apple invented those features and call android the copycats…yet again.

Detailed Information about New Planet Discovered by NASA (Kepler-22b)

This diagram compares our own solar system to Kepler-22, a star system containing the first "habitable zone" planet discovered by NASA's Kepler mission. The habitable zone is the sweet spot around a star where temperatures are right for water to exist in its liquid form. Liquid water is essential for life on Earth.
Kepler-22's star is a bit smaller than our sun, so its habitable zone is slightly closer in. The diagram shows an artist's rendering of the planet comfortably orbiting within the habitable zone, similar to where Earth circles the sun. Kepler-22b has a yearly orbit of 289 days. The planet is the smallest known to orbit in the middle of the habitable zone of a sun-like star. It's about 2.4 times the size of Earth.

Kepler-22b is the first confirmed extrasolar planet which could be a Super-Earth orbiting in the habitable zone of a Sun-like star discovered by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope.

Discovery

The discovery was announced December 5, 2011. The planet was originally discovered on Kepler's third day of science operations in mid-2009. The third transit was detected in late 2010. Additional confirmation data was provided by the Spitzer Space Telescope and ground-based observations. The planet's radius is roughly 2.4 times the radius of Earth; it is 600 light years away from Earth, in orbit around the G-type star Kepler 22.

Composition and structure

To date, its mass and surface composition remain unknown. If it has an Earth-like density (5.515 g/cm3) then it would contain 13.8 Earth masses, while its surface gravity would be 2.4 times Earth's. If it has water-like density (1 g/cm3) then it would mass 2.5 times Earth's and have a surface gravity of 0.43 times Earth's. The planet may fall into the category of planets known as super-Earths, depending on what the actual mass is.

Possibility of life

The distance from Kepler-22b to its host star is about 15% less than the distance from Earth to the Sun, but the luminosity (light output) of Kepler-22b's star is about 25% less than that of the Sun. This combination of a shorter distance from the star and a lower stellar luminosity are consistent with a moderate surface temperature. Scientists estimate that in the absence of an atmosphere, the equilibrium temperature would be approximately -11°C. If the atmosphere provides a greenhouse effect similar in magnitude to the one on Earth, the planet would have an average surface temperature of 22 °C (72°F).
At 2.4 times the size of the Earth, Kepler 22b is substantially larger than Earth and may therefore have a different composition. For example, the newly discovered planet may not be Earth-like, but rather more like Neptune, which is mostly ocean with a small rocky core. Nonetheless, Natalie Batalha, one of the scientists on the project, speculated "it's not beyond the realm of possibility that life could exist in such an ocean.

New Planet Discovered by NASA; Kepler-22b Might Support Life

NASA has identified a new planet outside our solar system that might be able to support life.
Kepler-22b, named after the orbiting telescope that discovered it, is about two and a half times the size of earth and is 600 light-years away, orbiting a sun-like star.
The newfound planet’s average surface temperature is believed to be a comfortable 72 degrees Fahrenheit, which means it could sustain liquid water and puts it in the so-called habitable zone.
NASA has been planet hunting with its Kepler space telescope since 2009 and has now identified over 2,300 potential planets, about 50 of which seem to have the right conditions to support life.

The call centre that knows when you're angry

The new technology could be used in automated call centres to route enquiries differently according to the anxiety level of the caller.
Scientists at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and the Universidad de Granada (UGR) said “the system created can be used to automatically adapt the dialogue to the user’s situation, so that the machine’s response is adequate to the person’s emotional state.”
“Thanks to this new development, the machine will be able to determine how the user feels and how the caller intends to continue the dialogue”, claimed one of its creators, David Grill, a professor in UC3M’s Computer Science Department.
The researchers looked closely at the anger, boredom and doubt that people often experience when talking to automated call centre voices. By examining tone of voice, the speed of speech, the duration of pauses, the energy of the voice signal and up to a total of sixty different ‘acoustic parameters’, they have produced computer models of what people sound like according to the emotions they are feeling.
The authors of the study, which has been published in the Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, said it is important that the machine be able to predict how the rest of the dialogue is going to continue. "To that end, we have developed a statistical method that uses earlier dialogues to learn what actions the user is most likely to take at any given moment", they claimed.

How to Enable the New YouTube Design Now

Word on the street is that YouTube has a slick new design. It’s a revamped homepage with some pretty tightGoogle+ social integration and content discovery features.
But if you’ve fired up your trusty Internet machine and the new YouTube hasn’t yet appeared for you, don’t fret. Our friends at The Verge have figured out an easy way (via Google+ user Mortiz Tolxdorff) to turn on the new features right the heck now.
At present, the trick only seems to work in Firefox and Chrome. Open up your browser’s development tools:
In Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + K (Win) | Cmd + Shift + K (Mac)
In Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + J (Win) | or Cmd + Alt + J (Mac)
Then add this string of delicious and nutritious code to the console:
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU";
Close your development tools, then reload The YouTubes. Voila! A fresh homepage for videos.
Once you get the new design, a message will pop up, prompting you to take a tour.

Surrounded by surveillance: Is everything spying on you?

Depending upon who you listen to, GPS tracking shouldn't be your only concern when you are out and about on the streets. The ACLU hammered license plate scanners as 'logging our every move,' a different investigative report concluded your car is spying on you, and some even claim the street lights are out to get you.
The ACLU reported on the "widespread tracking of citizen's movements" via the use of automated license plate readers (ALPRs). "It has now become clear that this technology, if we do not limit its use, will represent a significant step toward the creation of a surveillance society in the United States." The ACLU does, of course, regard GPS tracking without a warrant as intrusive on privacy, but license plate reader "technology is rapidly approaching the point where it could be used to reconstruct the entire movements of any individual vehicle." Some might call that paranoid, but the ACLU said of such accusations, that it is always "amazed by the speed and consistency with which our worst fears for these kinds of technologies turn into reality."

Tablet demand triples ahead of holidays, two out of three buyers want Apple’s iPad

Demand for media tablets is picking up ahead of the holidays according to a recent survey, with Amazon and Apple in particular looking like they will emerge as leaders this holiday season. According to data from market research firm ChangeWave, demand for tablets this holiday season is three times higher than it was last year during the same period. Holiday shoppers are most interested in Apple’s iPad 2 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire according to the results of a ChangeWave survey, preliminary results of which were released earlier this month

When asked if they intended to purchase a tablet in the next 90 days, 14% of the 3,043 North American consumers surveyed by ChangeWave said yes. Only 6% said they intended to purchase a tablet in a similar survey conducted in August, and just 4% intended to purchase a tablet in November last year. ChangeWave’s new survey also found that 65% of respondents intended to purchase Apple’s iPad 2, while 22% were eying the Kindle Fire. Only 4% of respondents intended to purchase a Samsung Galaxy Tab, and no other tablet vendor garnered more than 1% of interest among those polled.

“The launch of the Amazon Kindle Fire represents a shot across the bow at Apple, who until now has almost completely dominated the tablet space,” ChangeWave said. “But the most immediate impact of the Amazon device is on the rest of the competition, where the survey shows it wreaking a devastating blow to a range of second tier tablet manufacturers, including Motorola, RIM, Dell, HTC, H-P and Toshiba.”
Another recent survey conducted by Retrevo found that tablets will be in high demand among Black Friday shoppers this year, and the iPad and Kindle Fire top consumers’ lists as the gadgets they would most like to receive as gifts. A separate Retrevo survey found that sales of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet could top Apple’s iPad 2 this holiday season.
ChangeWave doesn’t see the Kindle Fire as much of a threat to Apple, however. Instead, Amazon’s tablet may end up helping Apple in the long run. “The ChangeWave survey shows the Amazon Kindle Fire is going to leapfrog the competition and become the number two product in the tablet market, as long as it can provide a quality user experience,” ChangeWave said. “But the Amazon surge may also contain a silver lining for Apple, by damaging the tablet market hopes of the remaining competitors in the field.”

The REAL cost of Apple's iPhone 4S to the Manufacturer (Estimated)

Just saved up for a new £499 iPhone 4S? Then look away now...
It might have underwhelmed the devotees, but sales of Apple’s iPhone 4S topped four million in just three days following last month’s launch, and it’s still the must-have smartphone this winter. Of course, those sleek looks don’t come cheap. Or do they..?
Out of contract, the iPhone 4S will cost you £499, but we can reveal that the nuts, bolts and high-end circuitry inside cost far less – see below for the total.
Expert analysts from technology firm iSuppli have prised open the pristine casing and totted up the cost of each component.
Some are reassuringly expensive – the touchscreen and display unit cost £23 – but others are less confidence-inspiring.
Next time you’re cursing the battery life, remember it’s only worth £3.68.

Top 15 mobile phones of 2011 compared around the world

2011 is going to end soon and this year we have seen plenty of new mobiles which rock the world and If you call year 2011 “a year of smart phone manufacturer war year” then it will be true. We have  seen plenty of law suit against HTC, Samsung and Apple etc and too many launches of new mobiles with two many enhanced features. Let say you need a break from your laptop? then the productivity new smart phones offer a lot more than the ability to make calls these days. Apple and Android has changed the face of simple call making device to smart phones having functions almost similar to laptop, which can be easily fit into your pocket. The trouble is, how do you decide which is the best one for you? Here is the list of Top 15 mobile phones of 2011 compared around the world, which is your next phone? please let us know
The last update saw the Samsung Galaxy S2 Grabbed crown and named king of Smart phones – the combo of Android 2.3 and a beautiful screen in a tightly packaged body saw it head straight to the top of the pile. But now Apple has finally brought out another version of the iPhone (if you want a sneaky peek, you can read our iPhone 4S review) so check out our list see if it’ll have what it takes to finally get an iPhone on top spot and help you choose a phone to buy.

1. Samsung Galaxy S2

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has taken the mobile phone world by storm since it’s release in May. In fact before it even went on sale the handset had received over 3 million pre-orders. It is the most powerful smartphone available on the market today with a staggering 1.2ghz dual core CPU. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a phone we’re excited to whip out in a pub and show off to our friends – and millions of people already are. It’s the ultimate media mobile, the next generation in web browsing thanks to slick Flash integration, a very good replacement for a pocket camcorder and, goshdarnit, it makes calls pretty well too.

2. iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4S comes with a dual-core processor, a better camera, a smarter virtual assistant and twice the storage of its predecessor — if you don’t mind paying for it. Like the iPhone 3GS did before to the 3G, the 4S bumps the iPhone 4 down to second-class status, leaving those Apple fans who must have the best aspiring to own its decidedly familiar exterior. Apple says this is the most amazing iPhone ever. Is it? Yes, of course it is, but read on to see whether it’s really worth an upgrade.
It’s one of the most expensive phones on the market, so have a think whether you really want the latest features, as the iPhone 4 and 3GS are cheaper alternatives… but make no mistake, this is another cracking smartphone from Apple, and while many will be undoubtedly upset it’s not number one, if you’re an Apple fan then this is your number one phone.

3. HTC Sensation

HTC has gone from being an unknown manufacturer for bigger brands to one spewing out leading Android smartphones. HTC has recognised that in bringing out a phone that ticks all the boxes for the most sought-after tech, bringing an 8MP camera, 1080p video recording, a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm chipset and a qHD resolution 4.3-inch screen.
The HTC Sensation is a cracking piece of kit despite being behind the S2 (and now the iPhone 4S), with Sense 3.0 being a real joy to use. The HTC Desire was the phone that showed the world what HTC could do, and the Sensation is a big step change once more. The dual-core power really shows, and the HTC Watch service is one to, well, watch as bringing movie downloads to a phone on the go could be the next big thing.

4. Sony Ericsson Arc S

The things we’re impressed with on the Xperia Arc S are almost too many to list. From the beautiful Reality Display with Bravia Engine to the powerful-yet-simple 8.1MP camera with Exmor R technology, this is one of the phones that people actually want to hold and play with when you show it off – plus it now boasts a 3D panorama mode, although you have to hook it up to a compatible big screen TV to view.

5. HTC Desire S

The Desire S has surprised us all with its popularity – decent price drops already have seen it become a valuable proposition and place it as a good HTC alternative to the dual-core power of the HTC Sensation. Excellent call quality, a decent camera, strong build and clever-as-ever social networking integration make this a class-leader once more, despite it no longer being the HTC top dog since the Sensation has landed. The HTC Desire S is a slick, compact and attractive handset that is a decent improvement on its predecessor with more compact lines and an improved Sense experience.

6. Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

It’s been a busy old year for Sony Ericsson. As it struggles to regain a foothold in the market it was once sucha major player in, it’s been firing out more Android-based Xperia smartphones than long-lost Friends, with the likes of Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini proving big hits. But there’s another winner from the soon-to-be-just-Sony brand, with the Xperia Ray winning more than a few admirign glances. Well-packaged and packing in a host of top-end Sony tech, the Xperia Ray is a smaller smartphone that squeezes a large amount of power into a pocketable package.

7. BlackBerry Bold 9900

Research in Motion (RIM) have been getting some pretty heavy criticism recently and it is now time for another flagship device, the Bold 9900. Keeping tradition alive by bringing out the industry’s best messaging devices. The Bold 9900 is the best BlackBerry ever created, with a solid chassis, easy to use keys, a superbly hi-res screen and touch capabilities too. BB OS 7 might not be much of an upgrade, but it still just works on a phone with a QWERTY keyboard / smaller screen combo. If you’re a BlackBerry fan, this is the phone for you without doubt. Well, that is if you can afford the oddly high price tag – it’s only this that’s stopping us ranking the Bold 9900 higher in our definitive guide.

8. HTC Incredible S

The HTC Incredible S offers a unique contoured design for stunning looks and a more secure grip. Capture life’s moments in vivid detail with the built-in HD camcorder. Immerse yourself in videos on the cinematic 4-inch display and virtual surround sound by SRS™. Go from big to bigger and share videos, photos or music wirelessly from your phone to your TV via DLNA. The Incredible S includes a powerful 1GHz processor for super fast web browsing.
The 8MP camera with dual LED flash is a decent option, the interface snaps along nicely and the price is palatable – with another top example of HTC Sense that’s been improved with the launch of Android 2.3, and hopefully will get the same update to Ice Cream Sandwich. While sales haven’t really been stellar for the Incredible S, it’s still a real favourite among users. We suggest you nab one soon, as they may not be around for much longer given the popularity of the HTC Sensation and new Beats Audio range.

9. Orange Monte Carlo

Orange UK will release the Orange Monte Carlo, which is actually a Re-branded of ZTE Skate. Powered by the Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, the phone features a 4.3-inch WVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP autofocus camera, a 512MB of RAM, and an 800MHz processor. That screen isn’t the best on the market though, especially in bright sunlight, and the camera has been downgraded a little to lower the cost too. However, for the price we’re more than happy to forgive this, and the Monte Carlo still delivers a decent large-screen viewing experience, if you are indoors.

10. LG Optimus 3D

LG calls the phone’s (Optimus series) “tri-dual” technology – a dual-core processor, dual cameras and dual-channel memory .LG Optimus 3D features An extraordinary 4.3 inch display which provides glasses-free 3D graphics and also dual 5 mp cameras pertaining to recording stereoscopic 3D photos as well as movies. The particular 3D button to the side of this mobile opens up this 3D heart for taking part in 3D games as well as enjoying 3D movies, you can also record your own personal 3D videos and upload all of them instantly to YouTube.

11. iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 was the most impressive iPhone ever when launched, and a big step up from the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4′s 960×640 Retina Display was a revelation when it was launched in 2010, and it’s impressive that it’s yet to be properly usurped. It’s got 326 pixels per inch, and we’re talking tiny pixels, only 78 micrometers wide.

12. BlackBerry Curve 9360

The Curve range has been something of a saviour for RIM in the last few years, with the immensely popular Curve 8520 still selling years after its launch. The new Curve takes things to another level though, with the new handset offering a superbly sleek chassis, a well-designed keyboard and next-generation functionality thanks to the inclusion of NFC to connect up to other BlackBerry devices, as well as letting you pay for goods on the go.

13. Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini / Mini Pro

Sony Ericsson managed something of an underground hit with the original Xperia X10 Mini range, and has predictably brought the line-up back with a powerful refresh. The new line-up (the Mini Pro features a keyboard, but is otherwise pretty much identical to the Mini) has a 1GHz processor under the hood and a much bigger 3-inch screen compared to last year’s model, which makes a big difference.
One of the major criticisms of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro when it was originally released was that the 1.6 version of Android which the phone used was somewhat outdated severely limiting the number of the apps that the user could use, but now it’s been updated to use Android 2.1.

14. Google Nexus S

The Google Nexus S is the successor to the Google Nexus One and is Google’s “reference” phone for Android handsets that will be released in 2011. Intended for developers and more hardcore phone enthusiasts, the Nexus S comes stock with Android 2.3 (codename: Gingerbread) which is free from all the extraneous apps that manufacturers and carriers add. if you’re after Ice Cream Sandwich on a budget with no frills, then this will be the way to do it. the NFC chip means you can do some cool stuff in the future too, like using Android Beam to send links or YouTube videos to friends by bumping phones.

15. Motorola Atrix

Smartphone with James Bond-style fingerprint recognition amazing isnay. Announcement of Dual core phone by Motorola named Atrix blow my mind, Mobile with  Dual core Tegra 2 1GHz processors, 1930mAh battery and qHD screen meant the Atrix was far and away the most powerful phone around. It garnered a decent review from us thanks to the snappy processor speeds.
